Final Project

For this project, I created a portrait series that shows what a day at Bethel is really like. I wanted to capture the full experience—both the fun, lighthearted moments and the more serious, focused ones. College life isn’t just one thing, and I tried to reflect that balance in my photos.

I used natural light and took portraits of people around campus, sometimes while they were doing something, sometimes when they noticed the camera, and other times when they were completely caught in the moment. I played around with depth of field to draw attention to my subjects while still making the setting feel meaningful. I didn’t want anything to feel too posed or edited—I wanted the photos to feel raw and real.

I also made sure to include small, consistent details in each photo that remind people this is Bethel. Whether it was something in the background or a specific location on campus, I wanted every shot to feel grounded in this place. My goal was for the photos to make people feel like they could step into them—like they could imagine themselves here, living the mix of fun, hard work, and everything in between that makes up life at Bethel. I don't know why but when I finished editing them there was a black background.

Assignment #3 Portraits

My lighting chart is in the order that the photos are in now going from left to right.
